The objective of WG4 is to examine both the basic physics (cloud physics) and use of observations for development and verification of convective parameterizations. We first develop a base in our knowledge in cloud physics and observations in order to prepare for critical analysis for the coming years. The objectives include defining plans for reviewing currently available data (notably satellite) as well as available microphysical schemes.

More specifically, we address the following questions:
-How can a microphysical formulation (which is itself a parameterization) be made resolution dependent?
-Can detailed microphysics with its essential sensitivity to environmental aerosols be incorporated into a mass-flux convection parameterization? Are the current approaches self-consistent or not? If not, how can it be achieved?
